Have you ever imagined what will happen to the giant learning institution in Kenya, University of Nairobi, if a 50 year old leadership and governance structure is abolished and scraped off?
The radical changes at the University of Nairobi are worthy a talk. The university of Nairobi will see five offices of the Deputy Vice Chancellor that include, DVC finance and planning, DVC human resource DVC student affairs, DVC academic affairs and DVC research and innovation eliminated.
The positions of Principals and Deputy Principals for the six University of Nairobi colleges headed by eight Principals which include the Human and Social Science College, Health Science, Education and External Studies, Biological and Physical Sciences, Architecture and Engineering, Agriculture and Veterinary Science have been also abolished.

In effect to this transformation, the university council chairperson prof. Julia Ojiambo indicated that there was need to eliminate duplication of functions and redundancies.
Five positions of the DVC abolished have been since replaced by two positions of associate VC.
Admiration of six University of Nairobi collages will now not be headed by Deans, Principals and Deputy Principals but have been left at the mercy of re-organized new positions of executive and associate Deans.
All the collages have also equally been abolished and their functions thrown to the mercy of leaner faculties which have equally been slashed and reduced to 11 from 35 faculties.
The 14 research centers of UON including Wangari Maathai institute of development among others have been retained.
According to Julia Ojiambo this changes are up to improving service delivery by managing service delivery cost in a bid to enhance accountability by utilizing excess capacity created in the new model of administration to generate more resources.
This administration model will make decision making process quicker and reduce administration costs. This administration model did not touch on the office of the Vice Chancellor.
