Police in Kisii have launched investigation of an incident where a form three student from St Patrick Mosocho was on Friday early morning attacked, beaten and injured by unknown armed gang while heading to school.
According to his sister Elmelda Orangi, the gangs ordered the student to sit down around 5am at Nyamondo near Isanta, tore his uniforms and set ablaze his books.
“They escaped with his school shirt, belt and sweater. He does not know anybody but he told us he can recognize their faces if lined up for identification. They set ablaze his books and tore his shoes,” She said.
Fankline Mboga a villager told the Daily clock that insecurity in the area has been a challenge for the local administration to manage.
“This is backwardness of the highest order. We ask the Police to treat this matter as urgent, investigate and arrest the suspects soonest. Insecurity here has been a challenge,” He said.
By the time this article was being published, the school Principal Mr. Jack Onyango was yet to respond after his calls went busy for more than an hour.
Kisii County police commander Jebel Munene confirmed the incident and promised to unmask the suspects.
“This is unfortunate. The matter was reported at Mosocho Police Station. We have taken it up and I promise we must unmask the culprits,” He said.
Munene said the student has been so far treated and is recovering at home.
Early this Month, Angry residents from the area protested against the Assistant Chief Mr. Morris Ngoya demanding his removal from office over increased cases of insecurity.
