
Kisii University has dismissed escalating social media allegations claiming that Corona Virus cases have been confirmed at the institution.
Through a Memo from the office of the Vice-Chancellor dated 13th March 2020, the university dismissed the allegations terming them as fake meant to instill fear.
“I would like to inform our students, staff and the public in general that there is fake news going round in social media that there is corona Virus in Kisii university,” Read the introduction part of the letter.
“Our University has not experienced any case of the virus and those are rumors from evil people who want to cause panic and pandemonium in the university,” Continues the letter.
It concluded, “The message is fake and should be ignored. We are sensitizing our people as guided by the Ministry of Public Health,”
On Friday the Ministry of Health in Kenya confirmed the very first Coronavirus case of a Kenyan who had jetted from London on 5th March 2020.
Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe said the patient is admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital where she is undergoing medication until she tests negative.
Kisii County is among the Counties which have already set up isolation centers at their referral Hospitals to deal with the cases as they may arise.
