Nyaikuro Police in Nyamira are holding a 50 year old Man from Bokondo village, Nyakongo sub-location in Nymaira County for allegedly torching his family’s house.

According to Manga sub-county Police officers, the man had a family wrangle with his three sons over a piece of land before setting the house into ashes on Saturday at 5 pm.

“We are in tears. This is shocking indeed. They have been quarreling over a piece of land for a while. The Mzee got angry and set their only family house on fire. All the property has been razed,” Said a resident.

The three-roomed mud iron-roofed house tumbled down and nothing was salvaged from the heinous act.

The value of the property lost is yet to be quantified.

The suspect identified as Meshak Oiro Mogaka escaped mob Justice and Surrendered to the police and he is in custody pending investigations.

Currently, land disputes are the greatest killers in both Kisii and Nyamira Counties. The Counties are densely populated making land a scarce resource.
