Influencial Maangi shakes state, his political star shines amid dark clouds.

Though appearing punctured by the withdrawal of his security and official cars, Kisii Deputy Governors Joash’s political ratings appear untamed.

In fact his fan base continues to broaden giving new fodder to political scientists.

And this is not without reason.

Mr Maangi is equal among the firsts that are already scrambling for Kisii Governorship seat.

Instructively, he is a man marked for his honesty and courage to stand in the rubble of a house tottering on edgy and about to crumple to graft and say thar things are not rosy at the County.

Pundits and many of the political leaders , among them his boss , James Ongwae, are biting fingers.

Maangi is marked for one sole reason of being the most formidable candidate in the 2022 race.

In fact, University of Nairobi political scientist Dr George Nyakenyanya says the Deputy Governor’s name cannot be brushed off the matrix of political dynamics shaping up in the region.

” He is not someone you can brush off easily, he may appear punctured in the face of this, but this will be momentary. And who said by taking away his security will dent him, on the contrary, it will not, ” said Nyakenyanya.

He said Maangi may in the ultimate political scheme defeat fair and square any of the candidates that are already lining up against him.

In fact, a source close to the County seat says Governor James Ongwae is a worried man and is trying to use intermediaries to deliver apologies to his Deputy following the stupid manner in which he handled his DG in the face of the differences over the BBI report.

A senior officer in the administration told the Daily Clock that Ongwae had been seeking Maangi since Friday and for the better part of Sunday to no avail.

By Monday morning the government had already beefed up security around the Deputy Governor’s governor’s office after he filed complaints to the DCI that his life was in danger.

Dr Nyakenyanya says the political machinations to bring Maangi down by Ongwae may had run into the high winds .

Already rumours circulating in the social media of of a possible ‘mother of all protests’ against the Ongwae may had sent him to the drawing board.

Word has it that a ten thousand strong man match had been planned from Ogembo to Kisii town to express displeasure and contempt with the way Ongwae was handling his Deputy, especially in the face of the fall out over the BBI.

Maangi, like DP William Ruto, is against breaking banks to bank roll the meetings saying the document has been accepted by Kenyans already.

He has often times even brushed attempts portraying him as being anti Matiangi.

” Am not against him, at the right time he may get even my support when he declares,” said Maangi during a presser at his residence last week.

It is all not at ease at Ongwae’s office with word being rife that rebellion is brewing from within following the political friction that has broken out between him and his Deputy.

In fact , an insider told the Daily clock , that Maangi is growing to smart in politics sending jitters down the spine of his boss.

His calculative and meticulous planning nature have confounded Ongwae’s a big deal.

Governor Ongwae roots for Interior CS Fred Matiangi and wants him for presidency.

Maangi, a dyed in the wool supporter of DP Ruto however feels Matiangi is yet to clear on his political ambition.

“Ongwae is man sitting on hot stove and beginning to cut down Maangi would be cutting a Mugumo tree with a razor,” states Nyakenyanya.

” Maangi is a king maker, a deal king and the possibility that of leaving an egg splattered on the face of his boss remains very really, ” said the University professor.

Maangi has begun well, by fighting graft he would resonate well with mwananchi, said Tumbo Ongeri a lecturer at State University of California.

He said though in the diaspora, they are following keenly the ongoings at the County.

” Graft is the order of the day, audit queries have never been addressed, contractors are collecting loaded money bags from treasury for no work done. We are alive to this as the diaspora group and we are definitely unhappy, ” adds Tumbo.

He said they root for fiscal discipline and prudent expenditure on development which is not being witnessed currently.

“For now thievery , sleaze and mischief abounds that must be addressed,” he said.

He said trying to puncture his Deputy is bound to fail because he has a dark past that may haunt to his retirement.

” It will be an unease retirement, no body envies shuffling between courts at his retirement, not even me. These are the prospects awaiting him, trust me,” he told the Daily Clock.

He said a Matiangi factor seems to be holding back the unrelenting wave of anti-graft purge from the EACC, DCI and DPP.

“It is a short holiday and it surely be interrupted at some point. Sonko had his honey moon cut short and it will be so for Gusii governors,” added Tumbo.

Ongwae like many of his peers tainted by graft has made trips to the Senate for grilling.

Meanwhile, talks that he is going for Senatorial is gaining ground.

The rumour mill says his support of Senator Sam Ongeri for Governorship is a long term plan to snuff out possible threats to his candidacy.
