Section of Kisii leaders led by Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi have proposed former Gucha District be cut off from Kisii to form a county should BBI report be subjected to a referendum.
Maangi says the electorate of Gucha as at now feels unrepresented thus no equal distribution of resources from the County Government of Kisii.
Speaking on Saturday at Kamel Park in a meeting attended by a section of elected Gusii and Kuria leaders, Maangi who is eyeing the Kisii Gubernatorial Seat in 2022 said this will ensure development at the grass root is achieved as per the BBI proposal.
“The people within the Kuria community and the residents of South Kisii, particularly the former Gucha District are under-represented, and therefore we request that Kuria be hived from Migori County to become an independent county on its own,“ Said Maangi while reading a statement signed by the leaders.
“And an additional Gucha county be hived from Kisii county. To make this easier, the questions regarding the independence of these areas should be included in the referendum question(s), if indeed a referendum will be held,” He continued.
Maangi maintained that he and other Ruto allied Leaders from Gusii and Kuria fully support the BBI no matter the channel it will take.
