A family in Nyamataro Kisii town escaped death after their house collapsed following the ongoing heavy rains across the country.
The Daily Clock arrived on Tuesday Morning at the scene, Tears and background sounds of crying desperate young children could be heard. Two women and a man were sited at the muddy pavement holding their cheeks tears rolling down.
The over seventy year Pacifica Matara says her, 8 children and seven grandchildren were in the middle of heavy sleep before they were awakened by a loud bang at midnight.
“We were asleep and at around 2am I was awakened by crying grandchildren, waking up mounds of soil had trapped them on a mat they were sleeping on. I screamed and were rescued by good Samaritans who made sure the children were safely evacuated,” Tearfully narrated Pacifica.
The woman has been living in poverty for decades following a battle with 8 years land dispute case.
“I have been in court for 8 years now with People who are after my small piece of land. I don’t have anything. Right now I have nowhere to sleep. We were rained on the whole night and even now we have nowhere to shelter,” She added.
The family has appealed to well-wishers especially the County Government of Kisii to rescue them put a smile on their face.
