Kisii Residents have been sternly warned against digging trenches across poor roads and planting Bananas.
Recently, cases of banana planting on roads have been reported in most parts of Kisii County following their poor state.
Kisii County Minister for Roads and Public works Vincent Sagwe told this writer on Friday that doing so is against the law which can land the involved in Jail.
“Why should people plant Bananas even if the road is poor, this cannot solve the problem. Its against the law to dig along Roads and Planting Bananas. Residents Must be warned,” Said Sagwe.
The minister said in this financial year, Kisii County Government had limited funds to repair all roads and instead Members of County Assembly gave priority to the highly affected.
“We ask the electorate to bear with us. We dont have enough funds as government to do all the roads at once. We depend on a list forwarded to us by MCAs for budgeting. We understand that the heavy rains have caused havoc to our roads,” Lamented Sagwe.
In the 2019/2020 financial year, 800 million budget for roads was approved by the County Assembly a move many thought could at least solve the long overdue challenge.
