Parents from across Kisii County and its environs have been spending sleepless nights outside the County Commissioner’s office waiting the processing of birth certificates the Daily Clock has learnt.
In an exclusive interview Tuesday night, They have revealed how the officers in charge force them to pay bribes for their certificates to get processed faster.
Mary Ogendi said she has camped at the offices close to a week now and even being shortchanged in the numbering system used by the birth registration officials.
“I woke up at 1 at night yesterday and had to travel here on foot so that they can process a birth certificate for my child but there had been nothing going on. Have been here the whole week, we are shortchanged in the numbering system with those who are able to afford bribes,” she narrated.
“Here you cannot be considered if you dont have a relative or bribe to pay them. We have been here the whole night since yesterday morning,” she added.
Christine Omariba from Manga says she has been chasing the certificate to beat the deadline of grade three national examinations but in vain.
“I have been waking up at 4am each morning only to see people get help as I wait in the line. Less than a 100 people get attended to each day despite all these people you see here every day,” She said.
They have appealed to relevant Authorities to come to their rescue for many have lost money and valuable items at night to thugs.
