Council of elders have been challenged to embrace peace and help communities live in harmony which will help the country to develop.
Addressing council of elders from lake region bloc at Gusii council of elders headquarters in Kisii, Cabinet Secretary for devolution Eugene Wamalwa said the elders are the backbone in solving community conflicts.
He also lauded the Gusii Council of Elders for peacefully settling tribal conflicts that has been for a while between Abagusii Community and Kipsigis at the border.
“I want to really thank The Gusii Council of Elders for their great support in solving conflicts that has affected the Kisii and Kipsigis for a very long time. Elders are the backbone of the society and you have done geat,” said wamalwa
He also insisted that Kenya should remain united in the spirit of handshake.
Gusii council of elders Chairman James Matundura also challenged the Governors from the lake region to give elders in committee positions.
