KICOSA kicked off today in Kisii County.
Kisii county is hosting Inter County sports, a historic event after Machakos which has seen tremendous developments at the county headquarters including the long rallied stadium which currently has three new pavilions with capacity to hold 2,000 guests.
Welcoming the 46 counties at Gusii Stadium excluding Kisii, The host Governor James Ongwae said the games are not only meant for entertainment and show casing cultural practices but also promote unity.
“In an often-divided world, sport is a unique and important connective tissue that binds people together. You can rarely find forums as powerful as these where we fill stadiums to cheer our favorite teams and players. What’s more important for inter-county games is the spirit of hard work, sacrifice, discipline and competitiveness that sports fosters among county workers,” He said.
Kisii town is currently packed with visitors from across the counties. The governor has assured of tight security from both county and National Government.
“To our visitors, I wish to assure you of a safe and enjoyable stay in Kisii. Working with National Government security agencies, we have made adequate security arrangements,” Said Ongwae.
Ongwae has challenged the visitors who are in Kisii until Saturday 18th August 2018 to tour the county and have a taste of Matoke a fruit that identifies the originality of Omogusii.
“Take time and venture into the countryside, sample our unique cuisine of matoke and experience the hospitality of our people. Don’t forget to visit Tabaka, home to soapstone, a unique rock that is used to make beautiful figurines you can carry away as souvenirs to embellish your living spaces,” Said Ongwae.
Ongwae also gave Shabana FC, Authority to start using the modern stadium as its home ground. The team has been facing I have allowed free access to the stadium for the next one year.and because of the challenges they face currently,
