Eight students from Kisii National School have been released at Kisii law court on a bond of Ksh200,000 and cash bail of 50,000 each over arson charges.
Appearing on Thursday before senior residents Magistrate Ezekiel Obino, The students were charged of unlawfully setting on fire a dormitory valued at Ksh 6,398,279 a property of Kisii Boys National School.
Magistrate Obino ruled that the suspects committed arson contrary to section 332(9) of the penal code.
The suspects who didn’t take any plea were arrested on Wednesday morning after they were captured on CCTV leaving a dorm shortly before it caught fire on Tuesday night.
The school was indefinitely closed on Wednesday afternoon after the students demanded to go home.
The suspects will appear again in court on 16/7/2018 to take plea.
