Nyakeyo Secondary School students in Kitutu Chache North, Kisii County set a blaze houses on Monday morning for allegations that the owner bewitched their colleague who passed on over the weekend.
The day school students who asked for permission to go and condole the family of the deceased said they torched the house of Jasper’s sister in law whom they believe bewitched him leading to his two weeks sickness which resulted to his death on Saturday.
The aggrieved students then moved to Mzee James Omwega’s home at Gekongo village five Kilometers away and torched houses accusing him of shielding his daughter who is said sought refuge at the home.
Hassan Abdi the Kisii County Police Commander confirmed the incident and said several students have been arrested in connection with the incident.
“While we condole with the family of the student who died we condemn the act of burning the houses of Mzee Omwega and his daughter, those behind this attack will definitely face the law,” said Abdi.
Abdi told the Media that police officers have maintained security at the school and at the homes of Mzee Omwega as they carry out serious investigations on the matter.
The school Principal refused to comment on the matter.
