James Kimani a man who was caught skinning a Cat for sale in Nakuru has been jailed for three years.
Mr Kimani was rescued by Police on Sunday after Angry mob nabbed him slaughtering a cat near the Nakuru show ground.
Appearing before Nakuru Chief Magistrate Benard Mararo on Monday, Kimani pleaded leniency after he admitted committing the offense but the Court maintained that the conviction was appropriate with the offense.
He was charged of slaughtering a cat for human consumption in a deceptive manner contrary to the foods,Drugs and chemical substance Act and slaughtering an animal at an undesignated place contrary to the meat control regulations.
“I was not aware its wrong to slaughter the cats in an open grounds. I could have done my business in the forests,” Pleaded Kimani.
Speaking to Journalists on Sunday after his arrest, Kimani said he has been in the business for six years now.
“I started selling Cat meat to samosa sellers in 2012. My clients don’t know its cat meat because i always tell them i fetch the meat from Giaito(Popular dump site),” Said Kimani.
