Residents in Nyamira County continue counting losses due to theft of street lights.

Business community in Nyamira County seems to have lost hope with business due to continuous theft of street lights sparking fear and insecurity, something that compels them to close their businesses earlier than normal.

Speaking to the media, the business community whom the majority comprised of the Jua kali alleged that since the cases of street light theft were recorded in Nyamira, they have been in total darkness something that has made them to record losses since business cannot take place in darkness.

“We are in great darkness since the lights were stolen, when the lights are stolen, then it means we have insecurity in Nyamira,” said Geoffrey Nyasani, one of the residents in Nyamira.

According to the business community in Nyamira county; the county commissioner ,Mariba has the duty to deploy enough police officers to ensure that no more street lights are stolen and that they should conduct proper investigation to ensure that those who have been conducting theft are brought to book.

“We are requesting the county commissioner, Mariba to deploy enough police officers to ensure security of the lights and offenders are brought to book,” according to them, “the county governor Amos Nyaribo should partner with the police and local administration to put to an end this theft that is costing us a lot.”
