As COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc across the world, several families have been hit by hunger. Employees have lost their jobs with others forced to take pay cuts.
As a way of coping with this situation, the Kisii Woman representative Janet Ong’era issued food to small scale traders operating in Kisii Town.
Speaking during the highly social distanced event outside her Kisii town office on Wednesday, Ong’era said part of the food was a donation from Interior cabinet secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi.
“My good people this was a donation from our son Dr. Fred Matiang’i. I thought it wise to also add you soap,” She said.
Those who were given food were selected leaders representing groups of various small scale traders.
Ong’era urged Kisii residents to strictly follow the rules put by the Ministry of Health in fighting the deadly virus. She said her office will work around the clock to help those in need.
The woman who is also eyeing the Kisii County Gubernatorial seat in 2022 had distributed food to people living with disability. He said Kisii County alone has over 8,000 people living with disabilities.
“You voted for me as your mother. You made me who i am. I will continue to help you where possible. Make sure you form SACCOs so that i can give you money for business,” She said.
She later distributed food to Mothers trading at Marigiti in Kisii town. They request Janet to continue distributing food as they battle the COVID-19 season.
Among the items distributed were Sugar, baking flour, and soap.
