Kisii and Nyamira County Governments for a long time have disagreed on the County Borders passing through Keroka town.

Kisii County led by Governor James Ongwae and Nyamira led by John Nyagarama have been fighting over the town which lies on the border.

On Sunday the Nyamira County Government destroyed Kiosks in efforts to expand roads. It claimed that some plots were grabbed by tycoons.

In a stakeholder meeting chaired by Ongwae at ATC in Kisii town on Monday, they unhappily warned that Nyamira County Government destroyed kiosks of innocent traders in the name of expanding roads.

The meeting was attended by Kisii County Commissioner and Nyaribari Masaba Member of Parliament Ezekiel Machogu among other delegates. Keroka town is in this constituency.

They further revealed that while carrying out demolitions, Nyamira County Authorities faced resistance from traders and residents when they crossed the boundary to Kisii.

To manage these wrangles soon, Machogu resolved to release Ksh 3M from CDF with a Ksh 5M top-up from Governor James Ongwae to immediately establish a Police post on the border.

“This is intended to restore order, preserve county revenue, protect properties and Boundary. The matter shall be persuaded to a fruitful conclusion after the current COVID-19 pandemic,” Said Machogu.

The team called on traders from Kisii and Authorities from Nyamira County to maintain peace and avoid situations that might complicate the fight against Coronavirus.

They resolved to extensively address the issue after the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has been managed.
