Tough headed Sonko bows, Nominates Woman as Deputy Governor

Dramatic Flamboyant Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has nominated a woman, Anne Kananu Mwenda for the position of deputy Governor.

Sonko in his letter to speaker Beatrice Elachi, has urged the Members of County Assembly to expedite the vetting process of the nominee for purposes of appointment.

The move has been arrived at to make sure stability and smooth service delivery in Nairobi as he fights for his case in court.

On 6th December 2019, Sonko was nabbed by the EACC at Voi and was arraigned in court on 11th over corruption charges. He was released and granted a 15 Million bail.

He further said as a law abiding Citizen, he will continue to abide by the bail terms which he was granted and ensure operations  of the County are not affected in any way.

The Nairobi tycoon called upon honorable members of the Nairobi County Assembly and all his staff to continue doing their part in serving Nairobi residents.

In January 2018, Polycarp Igathe resigned as the Nairobi Deputy Governor. The position has been vacant since then.

In March the same year, the supreme court of Kenya gave an advisory regarding the nomination of a deputy Governor once a vacancy occurs.

Crisis loomed when the court barred Sonko from accessing his office and commenting on the case on social media.
