Conflict has hit Kisii PAG Church after a group of Christians locked out the current senior Pastor Rev. Lawrence Morara Sunday Morning.

The group led by Elder Benard Nyamanya accused Morara of overstaying and changing church doctrines by force against the church members.

Addressing the media on a chilly Sunday after the scuffle, the group said the alleged Reverend has turned the church into a personal property.

They further accused the Pastor of using church funds with no accountability.

“Time has come we need to rise, Pastor and the current church leadership have taken advantage of members cash to enrich themselves,” Nyamanya said

It’s alleged that the Pastor had announced that he had not signed any contract with the church hence he will continue serving at the church until death.

For an hour, worshipers in support of the besieged cleric were locked out of the sanctuary till a group of hired bodaboda’s forcefully intervened to unlock the gate.

Wyclife Monyenyi a member said, they will not relent until action to kick the reverend out has been taken from their Kisumu Headquarters.

“Ideally a pastor is allowed to serve in one location for four years maximum. Serving more than 5 years is long term and against the constitution of the church. The pastor has now forcefully come up with unconstitutional changes to church doctrines,” Wycliffe said.

It’s said no peaceful election of church committee members has ever been held, the cleric appoints his suitable candidates unopposed.

They further accused the Renowned Reverend of failing to account for millions of shillings members have fundraised for various projects.

Among the in question is the construction of a church plaza.  Christians raised over Sh 500,000 towards the project.

They further demand the pastor to explain expenditures on salaries of church staff, the construction of shanty structures within the church compound and the absence of the funds raised for a crusade.

Further allegations question the accountability of the Pastors 13 Million plaza fully funded by Christians.

Section of members also wants the church leadership as a whole to extensively explain why they discriminate minority groups within the church especially when offering charity.

“Funeral fundraising for some  members is done at the church by all members while on others some members are dissuaded from attending, the widows ministry no longer gets support, church choirs have been technically abolished, the list is endless,” said Elder Nyamanya.

“Your either switch your cameras off or we break them,” fumed one of the goons called to reinforce security at the church.

The church leadership refused to give comment on the claims.

“The pastor will not talk to you , just leave,” said a member supportive of the besieged pastor.

Autonomy status

Wrangles emerged at the church late last year when senior pastor Lawrence  Morara announced that he wants the church to be autonomous allowing him to serve till death.

Leaflets ordering the pastor to leave were scattered at the church gate, an issue that gradually cooled down.
