South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro on Thursday accused the County Government of Kisii led by Governor James Ongwae over neglecting displaced electorate in his constituency.
According to Osoro, over 150 families were displaced following the last year’s heavy rains that swept away roofs from their hilly homes.
The residents escaped for their safety and camped at Nyasara Primary school in tents donated by Kenya Red Cross.
Osoro further claimed two lost their lives due to hunger and cold, among them was a 3 months old baby.
“They have camped within a school compound, Nyansara Primary School. Big, small, old and young sleep in shifts on the plain sheets supplied by the Red Cross,” Wrote Osoro on his Facebook profile.
“Neither the county government nor the National government has aided them. They are starved and in deep cold. A 3 month old baby succumbed to cold and as I write this (Thursday), we are on our way to a morgue to pick a Form 3 student who passed on in the same ground,” Added Osoro.
The Ruto Vocalist accused the Kisii County Government of setting aside 9M to facilitate BBI Joint Consultative meeting bringing together 4 Nyanza Counties but failed to allocate funds for the displaced citizens.
“The county and national government disaster teams are mute over this yet schools will be opening next week. Sadly, the county wants to spend Ksh 9M meant for such aids in organizing for a ‘consultative meeting over BBI’. Yes, Ksh.9M to bring ‘delegates’ from each sub-county to ‘consult’ on BBI on the 10th Jan 2020,” Said Osoro
On Wednesday Evening, Governor James Ongwae chaired a meeting of colleague Governors from Nyanza ahead of the scheduled consultative meeting on the BBI report.
