Nyamataro traders in Kisii town protested following the over one month heaped garbage which has been neglected by Kisii County Government.
The stinky smell heard from 2KM away has instilled fear among residents fearing an outbreak of cholera.
Traders especially Hoteliers and Butchers told The Daily Clock that they are closing down business due to increased flies.
“Look at even yourselves. It has been here since. They showed up yesterday and told us the lorry broke down and they disappeared. I sell meat here and flies have given us headache. They land on garbage and end up resting on our meat,” Protested Edina Kemunto.
“I do hotel Business here. Customers have disappeared. They cannot sit and eat with all this smell. Flies are all over on tables. It’s unbearable. We ask Mengo Ochwang’ the Director of Municipal either to clear this mess or resign,” Said Faith Kwamboka.
This is the second time the county has ignored the garbage until media exposed. They acted and removed it.
The residents have appealed to relevant Authority to help for they are closing down business due to the odour.
“We are asking Governor James Ongwae, our Governor. Do we close down our business and start selling this garbage? Will our children feed on this smell?,” Bitterly said Daniel Ondieki a food vendor.
