People Living With Disability in Vihiga will now be fully recognized and access services fully after Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo on Friday,12th of April signed into law the Disability bill.
The Governor who was addressing journalists at the County Government premises, said that the bill will be operational after 14 days.
‘As the Governor, I will ensure that these bills are implemented effectively,’ Dr. Ottichilo said.
Naomi Mandela,Nominated to represent the disability in the Vihiga County Assembly stated that Vihiga County now becomes second after Kisumu to have passed the bill.
Mandela also outlined that once effective, there will be formation of a Vihiga County Board for Persons With Disability to advocate amongst other issues 5% representation of the disability especially in matters to do with employment.
The board will also ensure that the welfare and issues to do with the disability are handled accordingly.
Also assented into law were the Trade and Markets ,Weights and Measures and the Amendment to the Improvement of working of the County Assembly bills.
In attendance was the Vihiga County Assembly leadership led by The Speaker and members of the County Executive Committee.
