Laikipia University main campus was on Tuesday closed indefinitely over student unrest which paralyzed transport along the Nyahururu-Nakuru Road.
According to a close source who requested anonymity, the students allegedly protested over what was termed as mismanagement of the institution.
According to a letter from the registrar academic affairs seen by The Daily Clock, the university senate held a meeting on Tuesday, March 2019 where they resolved to close the university with immediate effect over what they termed as property destruction and police engagement with the police by students.
“The 110th Special Laikipia University Senate meeting held on 26th March, 2019 at 12.07pm resolved to close the Main Campus indefinitely with immediate effect following student unrest, Engagement with police and subsequent destruction of property within and without,” Read the Letter.
The students were directed to vacate the University premises latest by 1pm on Tuesday 26th March 2016.
“Consequently, All students are directed to vacate the university premises latest by 1.00pm today Tuesday 26th March, 2019,” Read the last Part of the letter.
