The cabinet secretary for interior Dr. Fred Matiang’i has promised to set heavy measures which will curb Road accidents.
Speaking at Borabu Constituency in Nyamira county on Friday during a fundraiser to purchase a bus for KNUT union Borabu Branch, CS Matiang’i said that they are going to set measures which will curb the Road accidents which has claimed many lives .
He added that they will have a new approach which will bring a lasting solution to this problem .
“I want to promise the country that we are going to ensure that we have set a new approach on Road safety so that we can have lasting solutions on road accidents,” He said.
Matiang’i warned Drivers, Matatu Owners and traffic police saying the new measures will not relent anyone.
“Our actions are going to speak. We have agreed with the ministry of transport and security to have a new approach so that we can sort this menace once and for all. I want to say that this time round some people are going to feel it, we can not be addressing one problem all the time we should have it solved,” Matiang’i said
This comes after a Kakamega-bound bus killed at least 50 people in Kericho on an Early Wednesday. The accident occurred at Tunnel area, a black spot on the Londiani-Muhoroni road.
Nyamira senator Mogeni Okong’o who accompanied the CS said that the police officers and the EACC have been having issues since some police have guns which scare the EACC officer from investigating them.
“How can a police officer who have a gun on the road be arrested by EACC officers, we should have better ways on how we can end this problem,” said Okong’o.
