Nairobi City County First Lady Primrose Mbuvi on Tuesday came to the rescue of a Nairobi man who shocked the nation after his deplorable living conditions were highlighted by the media.
Ishmael Khamisi who stays in Makina, Kibra Constituency has been living inside an abandoned vehicle for two years with his two kids aged 10 and 13 years. But Khamisi’s fortunes will now change for the better after the Nairobi First Lady promised to support her and ensure his children are back in school.
Speaking on Tuesday when she visited the makeshift home of the family in Makina, the First Lady relocated the family from the location and provided shelter for the man and his family. Mrs Sonko also assured Mr Khamisi that his two children will immediately be enrolled in school.
The First Lady also promised Mr Khamisi that the Nairobi City County Government will provide him with an employment opportunity when a vacancy arises in the County.
Mr Khamisi’s two children have been attending Undugu Basic Education Unit in Kibra where pupils are offered non-formal education for free, but Mrs Sonko has now assured that the two children will be enrolled in a public institution.
The First Lady further promised to look for the mother of the two kids who separated with Mr Khamisi ten years ago. The man’s wife abandoned him a decade ago when their last born was just 6 months old, immediately when Mr Khamisi lost his casual job which was his only source of income.
I want to thank the First Lady for his gesture and I promise to support her to ensure such cases are addressed.
