Vihiga County Governor H.E Dr. Wilber Ottichilo on Monday graced the closing ceremony and issuance of certification to TVET managers and instructors at Tiriki Tropical Gardens; after a successful two-week training program by Bamboo production and processing experts from India.
The commercial potential of Bamboo is the fabric on which the World economic giants like China have been built on.
Aside from the environmental benefit of bamboo in the rehabilitation of degraded hills, river banks and riparian lands, bamboo has endless economic potential.
Given the ideal climatic conditions experienced in Vihiga County which are optimum for the growth of the tree, County Government of Vihiga in partnership with International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR) came together to explore ways in which Bamboo can be used to elevate the economy of Vihiga County through Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET).
68 mangers and instructors from TVET centers have been trained on the use of bamboo in carpentry and joinery; and building and construction courtesy of INBAR.
