Kisii County schools are set to benefit from water harvesting program by the Government affirmative Fund under the leadership of women representative Janet Ong’era.
Addressing Teachers, parents and students of Magena Primary school in Sensi ward, Kitutu chache south on Tuesday when handing a water tank, Mama County said that her office is keen on harvesting water program which will provide schools with sufficient water.
According to Ong’era, harvesting of rain water will save learners who waste a lot of time fetching water from rivers and at times forced to carry water from their homes to school.
“My office is focused to ensure that schools have enough water to avoid wastage of much time spent by students who go to the rivers to fetch water or in some cases carry water to schools from their home,” she said
“This program titled as Rain harvesting program will help schools more so those located in poor water catchment areas,” Ongera added
The county MP noted that two schools in each of the 45 wards totaling to 90 tanks are set to receive those tanks, so far schools in 3 wards has received the tanks.
“As you know that Kisii is one of the areas blessed with sufficient Rain, if we do Rain harvesting we will have sufficient water in our schools”
She added that at the end of this program in consultation with the county government of Kisii, they are going to do topographic survey to have places where they could dig boreholes to help residents across the county access enough water.
At the same time she advised students to take studies seriously.
“ Am urging students to be comfortable with the live they are living in and avoid being lured with money ,let them be comfortable within their own economic set up however poor its” she advised
