Kisii county governor James Ongwae has said that his main agenda in the county is to bring health services closer to the people .
The Governor refurbished the information which went viral that the Referral Hospital lacks basic equipments and Water forcing patients to carry water from outside.
Speaking to journalist governor said that his government is committed to bring world class healthcare closer to the people.
“This is why we have continued to invest substantial resources in the health sector, “said Ongwae.
Governor said as a county government they have increased the number of specialists to 23 up from two in 2013.
He also stated that they have increased the number of doctors to 170 up from 79 in 2013.
He further said as county they have invested in modern diagnostics equipment including a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Machine – the first in the region, CT scans, digital x-rays and more.
Mr Ongwae noted that the hospital has received KSh 2billion for the construction of a modern cancer diagnostic and treatment centre in Kisii County.
“We have finalized necessary protocols for this major project and groundbreaking will take place soon,” he said.
According to him the modern cancer center will be fully equipped with theaters, four examination rooms, mammograms, waiting rooms,lecture rooms, CT scan machines, an ICU with 12 beds and a 40 bed patient ward.
He stated that they have also finalized construction of a new 100 body capacity mortuary to replace the current one that can only which can carry 20 bodies.
This mortuary will house anatomy labs and a funeral home.
