Following a fire incident which gutted down a dormitory at Kisii High School in Kisii county on Tuesday night, leaders and parents have called for investigation to establish the cause of the fire which has left more than 198 students helpless.
Addressing the media at the school compound on Wednesday, Bonchari member of parliament who is also in the parliamentary education committee Oloo Oyioka, said that he will take the report to the committee on Thursday for well wishers to help in restoring the dormitory.
“I have seen the dormitory which is completely destroyed. Nothing was salvaged , real we plead to well wishers to help the school,” he said.
At the same time Oyioka said that investigation should be done since most Schools from Nyanza region have majorly been affected .
“We want to know why Nyanza is the most affected region since more than 9 institutions have been hit with fire tragedy but we would like to treat this case as isolated because its the first case in Kisii region,” Noted Oyioka
Robin Okeng’o a parent also condemned the incident by saying that they did not expect such incident at Kisii school since the school has never recorded any serious indiscipline cases before .
Therefore he called learners and management to be stable as the investigation is on to establish the case of fire.
“We did not expect this as parents because this incident also affects Innocent students who have dedicated their time in learning and revising for the exams” said Okeng’o
Another parent Geoffrey Nyamasere called upon the ministry of education and stakeholders to come up with measures which will curb this menace in school.
On Wednesday morning 8 students who were captured by CCTV leaving the dorm shortly before it caught fire are in custody. Kisii county commander Hassan Abdi confirmed the arrest.
