10 Nyakeyo Secondary students arraigned in court for allegedly torching houses worth Ksh 180,000.

10 suspected students from Nyakeyo Secondary School were on Tuesday arraigned in Kisii Law  court for allegedly torching houses in Kegogi ward, Kitutu chache north, Kisii county against the law.

The  students were accused of willingly  and unlawfully  torching houses on Monday Morning, a dwelling home of James  Nyakundi Omwega valued at Ksh  180,000.

Appearing before senior residents Magistrate Sympie   Makila , the students were charged of arson  contrary to section 332(9) of the penal code.

Sympie further directed the suspects who didn’t take any  plea to remain in Custody as they await for age assessment.

Advocate  Mr Onderi  Bigogo  was appointed  to act on behalf of the suspects.

The students were alleged to set ablaze houses on Monday for allegations that the owner bewitched their colleague who passed on over the weekend.

The day school students who asked for permission to go and condole the family of the deceased said they torched the house of Jasper’s sister in law whom they believe bewitched him leading to his two weeks sickness which resulted to his death on Saturday.

The aggrieved students then moved to Mzee James Omwega’s home at Gekongo village five Kilometers away and torched houses accusing him of shielding his daughter who is said sought refuge at the home.

The case will be mentioned on 12/7/2018.
