There was fireworks in Kisumu County Assembly yesterday after MCAs differed on a motion filed to impeach two members of the executive citing they failed to include crucial funds like Bursaries in the budget.
The disagreement erupted when two notices of Motion to impeach the County Executive Committee (CEC) member for Finance and the CEC for Economic Planning was brought forward by Chief Whip Gard Olima.
Speaking in Kisumu on Wednesday, Kisumu county speaker Onyango Oloo has said as much as the act should be condemned, there is need for people to disagree for the purposes of democracy.
“We must encourage diversity in opinions. You must allow people to disagree, you must allow them to form even camps, You must allow them to champion specific interests. What we discourage is when they abuse the law when criminal elements are brought in to interfere with the peace of the assembly,” Said Oloo.
On his part, MCA for Milimani Seth Kanga has disagreed with the impeachment motion citing the move will paralyze Anyang’ Nyongo’s Government.
“I saw impeaching the CEC Finance and CEC economic planning at this crucial time is as if we are paralyzing the government of Professor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o. As much we may disagree let us look at this issues in a greater picture,” Said Kanga.
Governor Anyang Nyongo fired County Chief of Staff Patrick Ouya for alleged incidents of violence against colleagues.
