Residents of Nyabigege South Mugirango in Kisii County held demonstrations on Monday over rising cases of insecurity in the area. This has come after two guards were brutally shot dead on 25th May night in Nyabigege market.
Lead by the area MCA Daniel Apepo, the residents who barricaded the Kisii-Migori highway for hours said the police have failed to speed up investigations and arrest the suspects even after giving them enough evidence.
“The police in Nyanchenge AP Police post should be transferred with immediate effect because they did not urgently cooperate in carrying out investigations when they were needed,” Said Area MCA Daniel Apepo.
However, Gucha South Deputy County commissioner Mr. James Wambua has assured residents of detailed investigation. Wambua also said the necessary steps will be taken in prosecuting the suspects.
“The police Jacket and Cap that were found at the scene will help us in carrying out investigations. Investigations are on and serious steps will be taken to arrest the suspects,” Promised Wambua.
Wambua also said the owner of the car that was set ablaze by angry residents which was used by the suspects will be arrested.
The bodies of the deceased who were guarding shops and parked lorries that ferry sand were found in a pool of blood outside the business premises in Nyabigege Market.
Police together with residents removed stones and the burning tires from the road. Transport in the area returned to normalcy.
